Research

Outline

There are three major research aim as follows.

① Isolation and Cultivation of Microbes

Microbes such as actinomycete and fungi are isolated from various environments (soil, marine, hot spring, insect etc) in Japan, and a one-of-a-kind of microbial library has been constructed, which is useful for discovery of new baioactive compounds.

② Screening for Discovery of New Bioactive Compounds

Our research group has focused on discovery of new compounds active against lifestyle-related diseases, cancer and infection diseases. Unique assay systems mimic to the disorders are constructed using special cells, insects and animals. Based on activity-guided/analysis-guided purification of new compounds from microbial cultures is carried out using various purificationtechniques such as extraction, column chromatography, HPLC and so on. Finally, the structures are elucidated using various spectroscopic analysis such as Mass NMR, UV, IR and CD spectra.

We have other various assay systems and search for bioactive compounds.

③ Study on Mechanism of Action

Mechanisms  of action of new bioactive compounds is studied by biochemical and genetical techniques using labeled compounds, biotinyl compounds, CETSA, DARTS and so on.
